2 boxes containing 89 photographic prints, 10 are albumen prints, 79 are photo-gravures, all except 6 are mounted, showing interiors, exteriors, details and general views of Tintern Abbey, its church, warming house, sacristy, monk's day room, cloister, book room, chapter house, monks' refectory, the kitchen and the sewer behind it, the lay brothers' refectory, the outer parlour and cellarer's office. They largely show the abbey before and after excavations carried out around 1906/7 but also include late 19th century photographs, plus one post-1913 Office of Works photograph.
Most were produced by the Office of Woods, Forests, Land Revenues, Works and Buildings which was operational from 1832 to 1851 before continuing as a department of the Office of Works.
