The Survey of the Jewish Built Heritage was carried out under the auspices of the Jewish Memorial Council, with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, with the aim of promoting; protection; preservation and public access. From 1999, English Heritage photographers recorded a number of monuments and sites dating from before the Second World War, some of which were used for the EH and Jewish Heritage publications 'Jewish Heritage in England: An Architectural Guide' by Sharman Kadish, (1st edition, Sep 2006), 'Jewish Heritage in Britain and Ireland: An Architetural Guide' (2nd edn 2015), 'The Synagogues of Britain and Ireland' (Yale 2011), and 'Jewish Heritage in Gibraltar' (Spire Books 2007).
