Description

The pub's brown and yellow faience features its name and the initials 'M B' for brewers Mitchells and Butlers, founded in 1898 and later submerged in the Bass/Six Continents leisure empire until 2003 when the name was resurrected as a semi-independent division of Six Continents charged with management of a portfolio of pubs, bars and restaurants. The Lower Turk's head was closed c2000 and since that date plans have been mooted that it will be turned into flats and a wine-bar. The developing agent seems to be Quantum Star Ltd of Oldham but plans appear not much to have advanced when this photograph was taken in 2008.
