CLIFTON HAMPDEN HIGH STREET SU5495 (South side) 11/19 Archway, steps and memorial Cross to the first Lord Aldenham 3m. S of Church of St. Michael and All Angels GV II



Memorial cross. Dated 1907 to inscription to base. By Walter Tower. Stone octagonal base with quatrefoil panels to each side. Tapering octagonal shaft supporting square top with carved figures in relief to each side. Early C20 flight of stone steps descending to stone archway, forming approach to church.

Memorial cross erected in memory of first Lord Aldenham (Henry Hucks Gibbs 1819-1907) who, with his mother, paid for the restoration of the church (q.v.) and paid for Clifton Hampden Bridge (q.v.). Included for group value.
