Description

The incline plane at Hobbacott Down once held rails to enable cargo tub boats on wheels to be transported up and down on rails between the upper and lower levels of the canal system. The Bude Canal served the hilly landscape around the border between Devon and Cornwall, and was largely used to transport sand containing lime to be used in agricultural fertiliser.
