View north-east up the inclined plane at Hobbacott Down, part of the Bude Canal system. The plane once held rails to enable cargo tub boats on wheels to be transported up and down between the upper and lower levels of the canal system.

Description

The channels for the rails can just be made out in this photograph, running up the hill between the avenue of trees. The Bude Canal served the hilly landscape around the border between Devon and Cornwall, and was largely used to transport sand containing lime to be used in agricultural fertiliser.
