In the 1861 census Julius Knoop and his wife Theodora are recorded as living at 'Regent House, Didsbury Road, Rusholme'. By the 1870s the property included a grand house, stables and garden buildings within a semi-rural setting. As Manchester grew, the character of Rusholme changed, and by the 1890s Regent House and grounds, now demolished, was replaced with the modest terraces of Grange Street (now Grandale Street) and Hibbert Street.
