Description

The airfield at Sealand, Flintshire, was originally civilian. It was requisitioned by the military in 1916 and subsequently expanded: a railway separated RAF Sealand on the south side and RAF Shotwick on the north side of the site. In 1924 the two bases merged to become RAF Sealand. The base operated as a Packing Depot for aircraft to be sent overseas, and in 1935 the site was expanded further to include an Aircraft Storage Unit.
