The airfield at Sealand, Flintshire, was originally civilian, and was requisitioned by the military in 1916 and subsequently expanded. A railway separated RAF Sealand on the south side and RAF Shotwick on the north side of the site. In 1924 the two bases merged to become RAF Sealand. The base was entirely closed in 2006; the site was partially reused by MoD Sealand, and some was sold to private investors.
