The collection contains 9 black and white photographic prints of central London street views taken in circa 1860 by Valentine Blanchard and published by C E Elliott, 5 Aldermanbury Postern, London.
All images are carte de visite views annotated on reverse and comprising: 1 of London Bridge, 2 of The Strand, 1 of Waterloo Bridge, 2 of Pall Mall, 2 of Regent Street, and 1 of the Wellington Clock Tower near London Bridge.

Valentine Blanchard flourished in 1859-1884 and worked from premises in Westminster and Camden. Blanchard was the first photographer to take his camera onto busy London streets [according to Mike Seaborne, Museum of London].
The collection was purchased by the NMR in 2002.
