Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings

Just over 220 years ago, the last bricks were laid on an extraordinary building in Shropshire that would change our city skies forever.

Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings was the first multifloored iron-framed building in the world. Derelict for many years, it is now owned by Historic England, who saved and sustainably restored the site with funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund for future generations to live, work and play in.

Historic England manages the venue, including the workspaces for hire, and plans to restore and redevelop further areas across the site. English Heritage will run the visitor experience from 1 April 2025.
