England's people and places have been captured by photography since its invention. These exhibitions of Historic England Archive images reveal how our architecture, archaeology and landscapes have changed from the 1850s to the present day.
Many featured in our book Picturing England: The photographic collections of Historic England charting the changing appearance of England’s buildings, landscapes and people as well as crucial turning points in the history of photography.
The Picturing England exhibition is now on show at the following location:
