Consent for Registered Parks, Gardens & Battlefields
Parks, gardens and battlefield sites of special historic interest can be Registered by Historic England. Registration in this way means that, although there is no separate consent system for them, their significance is a "material consideration" for the local planning authority when considering any proposed development affecting these sites or their settings. This means that their significance will be taken into account when reaching a decision.
Local planning authorities must consult Historic England where a planning application affects a Grade I or II* registered park or garden or battlefield. They will also consult the Gardens Trust on all applications affecting registered parks or gardens, regardless of the grade of the site.
